“The heart that fives thanks is a happy one, for we cannot feel thankful and unhappy at the same time.”
Douglas Wood
Thanksgiving is right around the corner. It’s a day when we celebrate all that we are thankful for. Being thankful for what you have and have not, helps you deal with the good and the bad, both at home and at work. In positive psychology research, gratitude correlates with greater happiness and improved health. When we are grateful it makes us feel more positive.
When my wife and I arrived in Florida from South Africa to start TheHomeMag, we had many challenges with the business and staffing. No one reaches success on their own. Your team foretells your future. We succeeded with the help of friends, family, co-workers, partners, and acquaintances. We continue to be grateful to everyone who participated positively in our journey.
We should all do so as well. Remember to thank your team not just around the holidays but all year long. Giving thanks lifts everyone’s spirits. Develop an attitude of gratitude and you will feel more joyful, improve your health, and build strong relationships.
“We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives.” — John F. Kennedy
This applies to your personal relationships as well. Remember, to say “I love you“ to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all, mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt, when they come from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love and take time to listen!
Remember, say a kind word to children who look up to you in awe, because those little ones soon will grow up and leave your side. Remember to give a warm hug to the one who shares your life, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart. It doesn’t cost a cent.
Many years ago, someone shared this meaningful quote: “Happy is the man who loves what he has.” You are complete. Show the world who you are with all your flaws. You are in charge of living the most fulfilled life possible, if you just accept that you are enough and be grateful for what you have.
To my Team — I am thankful for all of you. Happy Thanksgiving!
Ralph
