June Newsletter:
You spent money on advertising. The phone rang. And then… nothing happened. Sound familiar? The biggest leak in most trade businesses isn't the marketing budget, it's what happens after the lead comes in.
Most home improvement businesses, roofers, painters, plumbers, window companies, are great at the work itself. But when it comes to following up on enquiries, a lot of that hard-earned lead spend quietly disappears.
The fix doesn't require software, a sales team, or anything fancy. Here are three simple habits that will help you convert more of the leads you're already getting.
3 Simple Follow-Up Habits That Win More Jobs
Tip 01 Call back within the hour
Studies consistently show that the chance of converting a lead drops dramatically after the first hour. When someone calls or enquires, they're often contacting two or three businesses at once. The first one to call back professionally almost always gets the job. Set a rule: every new lead gets a call back within 60 minutes during business hours, even if it's just to say "I got your message and I'll be out to quote on Thursday."
Tip 02 Follow up at least three times before giving up
Most contractors call once, get no answer, and move on. But most customers are just busy, they're not ignoring you. Try this: call once, then send a text the next day, then call again two days later. Three touchpoints is the minimum. A simple text like "Hi, it's Dave from XYZ Roofing, just following up on your enquiry. Happy to answer any questions" costs nothing and wins jobs your competitors already gave up on.
Tip 03 Write it down, every single lead
If it's not written down, it doesn't exist. Keep a simple notebook or a note in your phone: the customer's name, number, what they need, and when you last contacted them. No app required. Just a running list you check every morning. You'll be amazed how many jobs you were about to forget, and how many you'll now close.
The bottom line
You don't need more leads. You need to work the ones you've already got. Speed, persistence, and a simple system will do more for your business this month than any new advertising campaign.
Until next month ... keep building.
