It’s a Wonderful Life in 2020!

“Reason, Observation and Experience — the Holy Trinity of Science — have taught us that happiness is the only good; that the time to be happy is now.”

Robert G. Ingersoll

Wow 2020 has arrived! By the time you read this, January will be over. Time waits for no one.

I remember New Year’s Eve in 2000. Deb and I were on a yacht in Jost Van Dyke, British Virgin Islands. We partied like rock stars that night. Before the new millennium the world was told that all computers were going to crash. Nothing happened. One big false alarm. How fast 20 years has flown by.

Over the holiday break we normally head off to South Africa or the Caribbean. I’m not a fan of the cold and much prefer running around on the beach in way less clothing. This year we decided to celebrate our first Christmas in our new home. It was different and for a change family came to visit us. I got the flu. I was forced to take it easy, not my usual style. For the first time in ages, I rested. Initially I had to fight the urge to be productive. After a few days I was actually fine with doing nothing. It was wonderful! It gave me a chance to reflect, recharge and refuel my mind and body.

Stillness is a great teacher. While reading my favorite book “The Obstacle is the Way” by Ryan Holiday, one passage really resonated with me. “It’s not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more, that is poor.” I’m all about taking on the next challenge. A no obstacle is too big, kind of guy. However, just being a still observer of your life, you realize how important GRATITUDE is. We live in an instant gratification world. Do now. See now. Want now. Go now. In today. Out tomorrow. Now. Now. Now!

This year before you make all your new changes to have the “Best Life Ever,” be aware of just how lucky you are to be alive, in the USA, in California, in a strong economy, have friends, family, a job… The list is endless. We are not poor. Forget material things. You probably have all you really need compared to the other 7.5 billion people on the planet. Life is a blessing. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone.

Be grateful. Be happy. 2020 is going to be EPIC!
